About Nicholas Tomlinson
Licensed Thoroughbred Trainer – 2025
Born and raised in Toronto, Ontario, Nicholas Tomlinson is a second-generation horseman with over a decade of hands-on experience at the highest levels of thoroughbred racing. Introduced to the sport by his father, Nicholas grew up spending weekends and summers at Woodbine Racetrack, where a lifelong passion was born.
At just 13, Nicholas began working as a hotwalker at Woodbine. Within two years, his drive to grow led him into grooming. After high school, he earned his assistant trainer’s license while working for respected trainers Malcolm and Sally Pierce. During this time, he gained invaluable international experience accompanying top horses such as Up With the Birds (G1W), Overheard (MGSW), Dance Again (SW, GSP), and Aldous Snow (GSW) across the U.S. racing circuit.
In 2015, Nicholas joined Hall of Fame trainer Mark Casse as an assistant. For the next 10 years, he was responsible for overseeing the daily care, conditioning, and race preparation of some of the most prominent horses in North America. These included:
Kentucky Derby contenders: Flameaway (2018), Helium (2021), Soup and Sandwich (2021)
Graded Stakes winners: Got Stormy, War of Will, Sir Winston, Awesome Slew, Salty, World Approval, Papilio, Webslinger, Wonder Gadot, Pappacap and many more.
Nicholas brings a strong foundation in horsemanship, race strategy, and client communication—combined with the discipline and attention to detail required to compete at the highest level.
